Geoffs Place is a registered charity (no. 1151020). For some years we have been supporting a group of people with learning disabilities, many of whom have no family contact. This enables them to have a break away from their sometimes isolated environment, thus allowing them to interact with their peers and be part of wider society. Originally we rented holiday accommodation, but as costs have risen, it has become more difficult to cover expenses. We soon realised that escalating costs would put the cost of a holiday out of the reach of the group; this is when we decided to purchase a holiday home at Parkdean on Hayling Island to provide low cost accommodation. Fund raising and donations from our supporters have provided the deposit and some repayments, but we still need to raise more funds to complete the purchase. The aim is that the caravan will eventually become a self-funding holiday home exclusively for adults with learning disabilities. Our holiday home is available to rent for families, organisations, etc who are involved in supporting adults with learning disabilities.
The charity is named after Geoff Samways who loved going on holiday with his special needs friends before he sadly passed away. Geoff's friends miss him being with them when they go on holiday, so they felt that by naming the holiday home Geoffs place, he would still be part of their holidays.
The holiday home is provided by fund raising by our supporters and Geoff's special needs friends. If you would like to support our fund raising or make a donation please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
